Cubes are the base element to create space from. Cubes are most often the shapes in which we live. They can be spacious and opening or they can be infringing and limiting. Playing with cubic shapes and disassembling them is a strong visual approach to create visual freedom, dynamics and movement. White spaces and negative spaces can look cubic thus threedimensional as well.

Any flat graphical element can be turned into a cubic and haptic element by adding another dimension to it. To determine shading and reflections of light in a cubic landscape a careful choice of colors is crucial. Depending on the shading and the amount of details cubic landscapes can be extremely realistic or fade into abstraction. To navigate between these two poles creates tension and excitement in the process. It is the foundation of a cubic artwork.
